CONCLUYE CUMBRE DE IDC SOBRE HUMANISMO EFICAZ CON CONFERENCIA DE PRESIDENTE ALVARO URIBE.

La Cumbre de San Cristóbal sobre “Humanismo eficaz” organizada por la Internacional Demócrata de Centro (IDC) concluyó hoy con una conferencia del Presidente colombiano Álvaro Uribe y con un foro de debate sobre “Seguridad Democrática”.

El Presidente Uribe explicó el trabajo realizado en los últimos años por el Gobierno colombiano para combatir el crimen organizado.

Tras la conferencia del Presidente Uribe se celebró el último foro de la Cumbre titulado “Seguridad democrática”, que contó con la participación de Eduardo Fernández, Vicepresidente de ODCA y ex Presidente de la IDC; Vinicio Cerezo, ex Presidente de Guatemala; y Yon Goicoechea, líder del movimiento estudiantil venezolano.

Con la jornada de hoy concluyó la reunión de la IDC celebrada durante los últimos tres días en Guanajuato (México) y en la que además de representantes de numerosos partidos miembros de la IDC han participado, entre otros, los Co-Presidentes de la IDC, Vicente Fox y Pier Ferdinando Casini; el Secretario Ejecutivo, Antonio López-Isturiz; Wilfried Martens, ex Primer Ministro de Bélgica y Presidente del Partido Popular Europeo (PPE); Jaime Mayor Oreja, Vicepresidente del Grupo del PPE en el Parlamento Europeo; Aljoz Peterle, ex Presidente de Eslovenia; y el Secretario Cesar Nava en representación del Presidente Mexicano, Felipe Calderón.

La IDC también celebró durante esta Cumbre la reunión de sus órganos decisorios –Comité Ejecutivo y Consejo Directivo- durante los cuales se aprobaron resoluciones sobre el resultado electoral en Estados Unidos; Cuba; la Republica Democrática del Congo; y Líbano.

Asimismo, se debatió el documento “La Nueva Era del Humanismo de Centro en la Política” y se nombró Vice-Presidente de honor de la IDC a Oswaldo Paya, impulsor del “Proyecto Varela” en Cuba.

CDI MEETING ON EFFECTIVE HUMANISM ENDS WITH CONFERENCE BY COLOMBIAN PRESIDENT ALVARO URIBE

The meeting held by the CDI (Centrist Democrat International) on “Effective Humanism” concluded today with a conference by Colombian President Alvaro Uribe and a debate on “Security and Democracy”.

President Uribe detailed the work carried out by the Colombian Government in recent years to fight organised crime.

Following the conference, a debate on “Security and Democracy” took place with the participation of Eduardo Fernandez, Vice-President of ODCA and former President of the CDI; Vinicio Cerezo, former President of Guatemala; and Yon Goicoechea, leader of the students movement in Venezuela.

These were the closing moments of the CDI meeting, which was held for the last three days in Guanajuato (Mexico) and saw the participation of representatives from many member parties of the CDI.

Participants also included CDI Co-Presidents, Vicente Fox and Pier Ferdinando Casini; Executive Secretary, Antonio Lopez-Isturiz; EPP President and former Prime Minister of Belgium, Wilfried Martens; Vice-President of the EPP-ED Group in the European Parliament, Jaime Mayor Oreja; former President of Slovenia, Aljoz Peterle; and Cesar Nava on behalf of the President of Mexico, Felipe Calderon.

A meeting of the CDI’s decision-making bodies - the Executive Committee and the Council – also took place. During this meeting several resolutions were adopted, on Cuba; the electoral result in the USA; the Democratic Republic of Congo; and Lebanon, and the document “A new era of Central (?) Humanism in Politics” was debated. The CDI also appointed Oswaldo Paya, promoter of the “Varela Project” in Cuba, as Honorary Vice-President.
